One of the first things people notice about you is your smile. Stop hiding your teeth behind closed lips or a carefully placed hand because you are worried that your teeth are discolored, misshapen, or have inconsistent gaps in between them. Veneers can create a consistent look and uniform color, covering up various imperfections and giving your natural smile an upgrade. These porcelain overlays are durable, quick to apply, custom-made for your teeth, and can last for years with proper care. You can feel more comfortable and confident flashing an attractive smile that you love knowing that your teeth look beautiful.

What Are Veneers?

Dental veneers are a way of correcting the smile without invasive surgery or long-term treatments. Instead, our doctors just paint a thin piece of porcelain over the tooth that replaces the enamel. All veneers are customized specifically for each patient’s mouth to correct whatever deficiencies or problems they are facing. This makes them look completely natural so onlookers won’t be able to tell the difference between the patient’s real teeth and the veneers.

Porcelain veneers are the most common type of veneers and usually last up to 20 years, providing patients with an amazing, long-lasting smile. Patients can get all their teeth covered in veneers or just a select few to correct problematic areas.

Benefits of Getting Veneers

As a method of aesthetic improvement, veneers have many benefits for Elizabethtown patients. In particular, they are:

  • Stain-resistant, meaning patients can drink tea, coffee, and wine without fear
  • Natural-looking, so they won’t stick out or look fake
  • Strong and long-lasting with up to 20 years of durability
  • Specifically crafted for each individual patient for a perfect match

Veneers are also a better option when compared to the more traditional crown treatment. Crowns are replacement teeth that fit over the top of the existing tooth, requiring adjacent teeth to be sanded down to make room. Veneers, on the other hand, only require a minimal amount of enamel to be removed, preserving as much of the original tooth as possible.

How Getting Veneers Works

The veneers process is quite simple. All patients will need to schedule an initial consultation at our Elizabethtown office, where our doctors can better analyze the smile and determine what kind of changes need to be made. To ensure the patient is happy with the result, our doctors can even create a mock-up smile that lets them see what they’d look like with veneers.

Next, our doctors will scrape away a small bit of enamel and then take an impression of the teeth. This impression will be sent to a dental lab, where the veneer will be custom made. When the veneers are ready, the patient will return to our office and have them placed and bonded to the teeth.

Who Qualifies for Veneers?

Nearly every patient in the Elizabethtown area qualifies for veneers, but to be sure, they will need to schedule a consultation with our doctors. At this appointment, they’ll learn more about whether they qualify as well as the cost of veneers.

Generally, patients must be in good oral health without active disease or decay. They also shouldn’t grind or clench their teeth, as this could damage the veneers.

Veneers are an excellent way to help patients with the following problems:

  • Misshapen or crooked teeth
  • Worn or chipped teeth
  • Stained or yellowed teeth that don’t respond to bleaching
  • Gaps or uneven spaces between the teeth

What Is the Recovery Like After Veneers?

There is no recovery after veneers. Once the veneers are bonded to the teeth, they will become a long-term fixture and shouldn’t slip off or move. Patients will need to avoid biting down hard on them, which means our doctors may prescribe a mouthguard to wear at night if patients are prone to teeth grinding.

Patients may find that their veneers feel odd for the first few days after the procedure, but this is normal. If there are any lingering problems, patients can discuss them at the follow-up appointment, which is when our doctors will check to make sure the patient is comfortable.

Otherwise, patients just need to care for their new veneers like they do their regular teeth. This includes brushing and flossing every day to make sure teeth stay healthy.
